A Wedding in Ramallah

2002  Palestine/America  90mins   Dir: Sherine Salama

A compelling, intimate and often funny documentary that uses the dramatic events surrounding the arranged wedding of a young Palestinian couple as a way of exploring life under occupation for ordinary Palestinians.  In this the 70th year of Palestinians mourning the loss of their homeland, A Wedding in Ramallah is as relevant now as when it was shot in 2002.

“Australian film maker Sherine Salama becomes something of a confidant to her subjects and brings us disconcertingly close to them: we become privy to gossip, family rows, hasty confidences, moments of frustration, occasions of high expectation and intimacy.” – Philippa Hawker, The Age.

Winner of AFI Best Documentary, Cinema du Reel award, and FIPRESCI Prize.

Director Sherine Salama will join us live on stage for an audience Q&A after the film.
