Testimonials

“What a treat to spend a weekend in beautiful Castlemaine, and then transported to other places and times through the stories of such talented film makers.

This festival felt big and small at the same time – bringing the world and its issues to the Theatre Royal, while also creating a wonderful sense of intimacy and inclusion with the many before and after sessions.

We’re sold, and will be back in 2023.”

— Clare from Alphington, Festival goer

“Being part of the C-Doc LOCALS OPening Night event in 2022 was such a positive experience.

Not only was it great to have the local people I’d filmed be able to attend and see themselves on the big screen, but it was inspiring to see just how many other creative people are making work and with this event, have a chance for it to be seen publicly in such a celebratory way”

— Mitch Nivalis, LOCALS entrant

“I had an absolute ball up in Castlemaine.

That opening night was a real winner. I was sitting next to family and friends of the filmmakers and they couldn’t be more excited and proud. I really hope that event is kept up in some way each year. Such a wonderful way to bring the community together.

And that filmmakers lunch was excellent as well. I connected with new filmmakers and renewed old relationships. Thanks so much for putting on such a wonderful event.

Club CDoc Story

A Year-Round Celebration of Documentary

Once a year, the Castlemaine Documentary Festival brought doco-lovers, filmmakers and communities together for a magical weekend. This spirit of connection and creativity lasts all year. Club CDoc is a vibrant, year-round extension of the festival, dedicated to nurturing the bond between filmmakers and audiences.

A Community Hub: Club CDoc hosts regular pop-up screenings, engaging Q&A panels, inspiring guest presentations, hands-on workshops, and lively social events. These activities not only entertain but also educate and spark vital conversations about local and global issues, past and present. By working in tandem, the Festival and Club CDoc celebrate diversity and bring our community closer together.

Supporting Local Talent: We are passionate about supporting local and regional filmmakers. Our LOCALS program at the Festival shines a spotlight on homegrown talent. Whether experienced or first-time filmmakers, participants receive support through workshops and networking opportunities throughout the year. We also host an annual media industry lunch held during the festival. This event fosters networking and collaboration within the media industry both metro and regionally.

In Partnership with the Community: Club CDoc events are hosted in collaboration with local venues like the Theatre Royal, Northern Arts Hotel, and Shed Shaker. We actively seek feedback from our community to ensure our activities resonate and inspire. This local connection builds audience awareness, drives innovation, and fuels the creativity of filmmakers.

Catalysts for Change: Club CDoc’s programs often serve as catalysts for community action and public education. By highlighting pressing issues and advocating for change, we aim to make a positive impact. Our events inspire audiences to think deeply, act locally, and engage globally.

Club CDoc is more than just a series of events; it’s a thriving community. It reflects CDoc Ltd’s commitment to adapting and innovating while maintaining the core values of in-person contact and the intimacy of shared experiences.
