In a remote American fishing village, where life unfolds with the seasons and the sea, Bucks Harbor explores the ways that men & boys understand their roles and themselves in a changing world.

Downeast Maine is a stretch of rugged coastline chiseled between the forest and the sea. Here, boys are shaped by the brutal winters, the harvest of the ocean’s bounty, and the rigid codes of their fathers. Bucks Harbor explores the inner lives of these fishermen, young and old, and the emotional complexity of growing up in a community where a man’s worth is often defined by the strength of his back.

"I’ve long interrogated the lessons we were taught as boys: to be tough and strong, don’t accept humiliation, don’t express fear or insecurity. What did those lessons prepare us for? What do our families, friends, and societies truly want and need from us? How do vulnerability and providership comfortably coexist, particularly in environments of scarcity? And most importantly, how do we feel beneath the stoic exteriors we were encouraged to assume? But Bucks Harbor is not solely an exploration of men and masculinity. While men and boys offer central perspectives, the film is about survival, love, and the emotional armor we all develop."
