Reas flips the script on the prison film, blending gritty reality with explosive musical fantasy. Yoseli has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on her back and has always wanted to travel, but she was arrested at the airport for drug trafficking. Nacho is a trans man who was arrested for swindling and started a rock band in jail. Together in a Buenos Aires women’s prison, a diverse group of inmates reenact their lives through song and dance, and invent, through fantasy and imagination, a possible future for themselves.
Directed by Lola Arias, this bold hybrid musical reimagines the genre, where imagination is the key to breaking free from the confines of the past.
“We used to joke that it was a psycho-magical act, that we were taking all the ghosts from prison for a day out, all these people who were in prison, who were tortured, who were killed… The space of the prison is so dark, heavy, and charged with death, that we could only do something that headed towards the light.”
SUGAR FED LEOPARDS
Breaking hearts and starting dance-floor fires since 2013, Sugar Fed Leopards (SFL) play sweet original music that emanates from somewhere in the sequined space between disco, soul, doo-wop, and rock n roll.
Described as “…Kath and Kim on acid”, this blazing septet sizzles on stage with smoking hot costumes, tight dance moves and sweet harmonies, backed by a cranking rhythm section and soaring saxophone.
Getting undeniably hotter over time with fresh tunes and new moves, SFL are standing by and ready to whip up an ecstatic meringue on the dance floor of your dreams.
